Why do People get Drawn Into Stupid Arguments…
…when scripture tells us so clearly NOT to do it?
“But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will”. 2 Timothy 2:23-26.
“MUST NOT” means ‘must not’ – it is not some kind of multiple choice option whereby we choose how we behave based upon how we feel, which is, sadly what the vast majority of people do.
Many, many people have been turned off Christianity, and subsequently been turned away from the Lord because of a Christian person who has completely disregarded this verse and got into some kind of argument or dispute with the unsaved. Many Christian Brothers have had irreparable rifts develop because of the same stupidity of entering into arguments probably from a perspective of “we don’t believe it that way”.
It’s really sad but more importantly is the complete disregard for what scripture tells us – AVOID FOOLISH AND IGNORANT DISPUTES and DO NOT QUARREL. It’s pretty simple really but just how many of us are actively living this and teaching it to our children?
The Bottom Line: There are dire consequences involved – vs. 26!
